Amber Zendeja – 2020 SNF Scholarship Award Recipient

Sponsored by CMA Family Charitable Fund

High School Attended: Ryan High School

College: Brigham Young University

Major: History

Amber Zendejas is a senior at Ryan High School who is excited to attend Brigham Young University, where she plans to study history and eventually go on to law school. She dreams of helping others by representing them as an immigration lawyer.

In order to do that, she needs help. As a first-generation college student from a lower-income family, Amber has depended on resources like the SasserNation Foundation and the Talent Search program at her school to get her on track to go to college. Her parents work hard to provide for the family, but she knows they don’t have excess money to help her save for college.

Talent Search is a federally funded program that assists students with tools they’ll need to achieve post-secondary education. The program offered Amber benefits like weekly SAT prep courses, scholarship application help and FAFSA assistance. This is where Amber learned about ways to ease the financial burden of college before she ever stepped foot on campus.

BYU is Amber’s dream school, and although tuition is cheaper than others she applied to, she recognizes living in Utah — away from home — comes with an additional cost. As a SasserNation Foundation Scholarship recipient, she plans to use the money for her stay on campus.
